Design for a Heat Pump with Sink Temperatures of 200 °C Using a Radial Compressor

To reduce CO2 emissions in the industrial sector, high-temperature heat pumps are a key technology. This work presents an approach to design such pump system capable of supplying 200 °C sink temperature and capacity approximately 1 MW. Today’s market-available using displacement compressors not suitable for reaching that high temperatures as they need lubricating oil, which is resistant enough. As consequence, this study transcritical cycle two-stage oil-free radial compressor investigated. Based on preliminary studies, R1233zd(E) chosen refrigerant. The procedure couples 1D thermodynamic simulations with mean-line model. A geometry without inlet guide vanes presented, maps including behaviour off-design calculated. then imported into simulation analysis performance whole operating range. In analysis, application fixed evaluated, improvement 21% 16% isentropic efficiency achieved. showed maximum COP 2.8 possible range 0.5 1.3 MW thermal power. Furthermore, techno-economical by means deep-fryer use case reasonable payback times between 2 10 years, depending electricity gas price ratio.
